Antwon - My Turn To Die
So my friend Maré Odomo inadvertently introduced me (by way of ThisIsMyJam.com) to Antwon, a rapper based out of San Jose on the westerly side of things in Cali. He’s what I call a blue collar rapper, reminiscent of Atmosphere in subject matter, delving into emotions, father figures, debt, Ric Flair, drugs, and girls as his muses. This is opposed to the popular rap topics of boasting, diamonds, and doing various things at clubs. I have had his Fantasy Beds mixtape on constant loop this past week and you probably will too.
Antwon is at his best when he is soothsaying over “rapegaze” indie/hipster tracks like he is on the track above, “My Turn To Die”, and on another Fantasy Beds track called “Skullkrush” (Clams Casino, Salem respectively). It’s just a matter of time before Antwon blows up, so get on the bandwagon now so you can mark up your indie cred and say he sold out later. I’ll be staying on though and keeping my hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. Hey Antwon, let me know when you hit the east coast.
